Hazardous Waste Disposal
The Brown County Hazardous Material Recovery Facility accepts material that pose a threat to human health and the environment. These materials are flammable, poisonous, corrosive or reactive. This facility is located at 2561 S. Broadway. The Facility is open to Brown County residents on Thursday from Noon - 6:00 p.m. and Tuesdays from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Businesses are accepted by appointment only. Brown County currently operates a Single Stream Recycling Transfer Facility that transfers paper and commingled containers for county residents, business, and municipalities to the Tri-County Material Recovery Facility. The Solid Waste Transfer Station on West Mason Street currently transfers waste to the Brown County South Landfill as part of a three-county waste disposal agreement. The Hazardous Material Recovery Facility on South Broadway recovers (recycles) or properly disposes of residential and commercial materials that are classified as hazardous or restricted from disposal in landfill through bi-weekly residential drop-offs and scheduled appointments.

- Reactive - Pool chemicals
- Poisonous/Toxic - Pesticides, cleaning products
- Others - Fluorescent lights, ballast, computers and electronics, cooking oil, propane tanks, oil, antifreeze, batteries (fees apply)
- Small appliances - microwaves, dorm or miniature refrigerators, dehumidifier, air conditioner, etc.(fees apply)
