Storm Sewer Rate Increase
On June 12, 2012, the Village of Ashwaubenon Village Board approved Ordinance No. 06-1-12, creating a Storm Water Utility, which became effective on September 1, 2012.
Invoicing of the Storm Water charges is included as a separate line item on the water utility bill. This charge is based on the amount of impervious surface (rooftop, driveway, side-walk, etc.) on your parcel. The typical residential lot has 3,316 square feet of impervious surface which is the basis for the annual rate of $50 per equivalent runoff unit (ERU). The Village has calculated each parcel’s ERU charge based on the most current aerial photography. Therefore, a parcel with 3,316 square feet of impervious surface will see a $12.50 storm water charge on their quarterly water bill.
On October 8, 2024, the Village Board met and approved a rate increase of the Storm Water Utility. The new annual rate will be $75 per equivalent runoff unit (ERU) or an $18.75 charge per quarter on the water bill.
Creation of the Storm Water Utility is a funding mechanism the Village is using to meet mandates by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources to ensure Waters of the State are kept clean and limiting flooding. Through the Wisconsin Pollution Discharge and Elimination System (WPDES) permitting process, the Village must continually stay in compliance with the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Discharge Permit issued to the Village in 2006. A Utility also allows the Village to include all tax-exempt parcels in with this effort so that all generators of storm water runoff are working together on storm water management.
